Mandaluyong discourages Christmas parties

Mandaluyong City Mayor Carmelita Abalos discouraged the holding of parties and other merry-making activities this Christmas season to ensure the safety of the public amid the ongoing pandemic, according to a report by Manila Bulletin.

“The conduct of parties, get-togethers, reunions and other merry-making activities are strictly being discouraged in all public offices and agencies including those similar events guise as pool and out-of-town parties in defiance to the required social distancing and health/safety protocols,” Abalos said in a recently issued memorandum.

The mayor also reminded city government employees, as well as those working in private establishments and offices to observe minimum health protocols this holiday season to prevent possible infection in the workplace.

“Adherence to this memorandum is hereby enforced and shall be fully implemented and strictly monitored by the department heads and heads of offices. Violators and non-compliance shall be dealt accordingly,” the memorandum read.

It has been a tradition of Filipinos to have grand celebrations such as parties and reunions during the yuletide season.

But with the lingering threat of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), authorities have urged the public to do away with merry-making activities this year.

This is to avoid the further spread of the dreaded disease in the community and prevent the possible surge of COVID-19 cases after the holiday season.
