The Department of Health, together with several Metro Manila Mayors and national government agencies launched on Thursday, May 26, the Sabay Savaxx Kontra Covid initiative to help boost the public’s protection against Covid-19 and its more transmissible Omicron BA.4 variant that has been already detected in the country, according to a report by Manila Bulletin.

Testing Czar Secretary Vince Hizon, Mandaluyong City Mayor Menchie Abalos, incoming Mandaluyong City Mayor Benjamin Abalos Sr., Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Romando Artes, Antipolo Mayor Casimiro Jun Ynarez III, and SM Supermall President Steven Tan spearheaded the event held at SM Megamall.

The DOH said the ceremonial vaccination serves to highlight the Duterte administration’s steadfast response against the COVID-19 pandemic by protecting every Filipino until the very last day of its term.

Abalos Sr. also received his second booster shot during the launch after the DOH approved the administration of the second booster dose of the Covid-19 vaccine to senior citizens, persons with commorbidities, and medical frontliners.

“Andito po tayo ngayon for the seond booster for all our lolos and lolas, and of course sa ating mga frontliners and mga immunocompromised. Sana po magpabakuna na tayo dahil alam naman po nating hindi pa po tayo ligtas sa Covid. Hindi pa ho tayo safe, andito pa din sila (We are now here for the second booster for all our senior citizens, frontliners, and immunocompromised individuals against Covid-19. I urge all of you to get vaccinated because we are not yet safe from Covid. It is still here),” Mayor Abalos said.

As of May 23, Mandaluyong City has deployed 1,287,052 vaccines to its residents. In this number, 550,438 have been vaccinated with their first dose while 534,536 have been fully vaccinated.

The city has also boosted 227,786 individuals against the virus.
